Glaucoma

Glaucoma is associated with an increase in the intraocular pressure of the eye. Glaucoma is caused by an imbalance in the outflow and production of aqueous fluid in the eye; any imbalance between these two can cause glaucoma. Why is it critical to treat glaucoma? Glaucoma, if left untreated, can cause progressive and eventually irreversible optic nerve damage, manifesting clinically as loss or reduction in the visual field and peripheral vision.

Glaucoma is a potentially blinding condition that requires the attention of an ophthalmic consultant. The intra-ocular pressure must be monitored, as well as the effects that higher eye pressure may have on the retina. The Dynamic Medical Center offers glaucoma diagnostics; each consultation includes intra-ocular pressure measurement, and in cases of known or suspected glaucoma, more advanced pressure recording devices such as the i-Pen are used. We have a full complement of glaucoma diagnostic scanners, such as visual field testing and OCT retinal scans, to examine the effect on the retina.
